Description

After the overwhelming success of the outgoing F80 M3, BMW knew that for their incoming G80 car, they needed to up the ante even further and build the most capable M3 the world had ever seen. Debuting in September 2020, the G80 signaled a dramatic shift in styling which initially proved to be polarizing and the main talking point surrounding the car. But less than two years after its debut, people have come to appreciate the new design language and now appreciate the G80 M3 for what it really is, a truly world-class sports sedan. Powered by the S58 twin-turbocharged inline-6, the G80 produces 473 Horsepower and 406 Lb-Ft of torque which was enough to propel the car from 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds. For the first time ever, the M3 was now available in either rear-wheel drive or with a sport-tuned xDrive all-wheel drive system, although the manual transmission was only available in the rear-wheel drive variant. With suspension developed on the Nurburgring, the G80 M3 handles like no previous generation and manages to feel sharp and light on its feet, even though it is a sedan with all the creature comforts you could ask for.

This G80 M3 is an early build car, purchased by a member of the Precision Sport Industries team in November of 2021. From its earliest days, the intention of the car was to develop new performance parts on it and create a striking build for SEMA. Optioned with rear wheel drive, a 6-speed manual transmission, and carbon fiber buckets, the car was specced as the ultimate driver's car. Painted in the beautiful launch color of Isle of Man Green over Kyalami Orange Interior, it has since been professionally wrapped in the Porsche color of Rubystar (Rubystone) to make it stand out even more in photos.

Almost immediately, the crew at PSI set to work getting the stance of the car right-utilizing their car as the test bed for their PSI Midpipe and for new coil overs and lowering springs made by Moton/AST. The OEM staggered 19” /20”wheels were swapped out for a stunning set of staggered 19”/20” Titan 7 TD6E wheels in Dark Machine finish on one side and Hybrid Black on the other.

Extensive exhaust modifications have also been carried out with a beautiful PSI built non-resonated mid-pipe connected to an Akrapovic titanium exhaust which is far lighter than the original unit and thanks to increased flow, offers an 11 horsepower increase over stock-all while sounding fantastic. Under the hood, an Eventuri carbon intake helps the car breathe more easily and adds 18 horsepower while also adding a stunning visual pop with its high gloss carbon finish. All of these modifications wouldn't be nearly as effective without the addition and the dAHLer Unit, their ECU piggyback advertises gains of 102 horsepower and 66 Lb-Ft or torque on US 93 octane fuel-meaning that now this M3 is pushing over 600 horsepower. In an effort to keep the car producing reliable power even in the hottest weather, a CSF heat exchanger was installed to keep the charge cool and the car happy. A Future Classic Short Shifter has also been installed for a shorter, more direct shift feel.

Wanting to not just work on the mechanical side, PSI went to work on enhancing the exterior and interior to make it truly one of a kind. As this was one of the earliest cars available, many of the parts were the first of their kind for the G80 M3 or in some cases even developed on this very example. Carbon fiber specialists Vorsteiner provided some of the most noticeable changes on the car including its front grilles (the first set produced), front lip spoiler and stunning carbon rear rear decklid spoiler. These give the car an even more aggressive look and are all top quality pieces coming from a name like Vorsteiner. A set of M Performance side skirts and rear side skirt flares were added which make the car look even lower and compliment the body lines very nicely. One of the easiest modifications to spot is the Thule Vector M roof box on top of the car. An ultra high quality unit that was painted Isle of Man Green to match the exterior of the car prior to it being wrapped in its current shade of Rubystone. Blacked out Roundels front and rear from IND have been installed and on the interior, an Alcantara steering wheel from IND was also added for better tactile feel behind the wheel.

Thanks to the extensive list of modifications and the fact that it was one of the first modified G80s out of the gate, this example has become a pretty famous car over the past two years. In both 2021 and 2022, the car was on display at SEMA in the AST/Moton booth where it received lots of media coverage. Additionally, the car has been featured by well known automotive media personalities including Larry Chen, Adam LZ and TJ Hunt- all of whom have shown the car on various social media channels. It is no secret that the G80 M3 is a great car to drive, but since its still so new, it can be difficult to find one that has already received a thorough sorting in the aftermarket like this has. When you combine that with the fact that the car has a significant internet following already, it's truly a one of a kind proposition.
